New York, NY – July 1, 2025 – The Asian Wave Alliance (AWA) extends its gratitude to all New Yorkers who participated in the recent primary elections, demonstrating their commitment to shaping our city’s future. While we put forth our best effort to support Andrew Cuomo’s candidacy for the Democratic Primary, we are disappointed by his loss. We acknowledge the energetic campaign led by Zohran Mamdani which successfully mobilized new voters including participation from younger voters, South Asian, and Muslim voters who connected with his identity and message.
We are proud to congratulate our endorsed candidates who secured victories in their primary races, including Mark Levine, candidate for Comptroller. Mark’s meaningful outreach to the Asian community has been commendable, and we look forward to continued collaboration with his office over the next four years to advance the interests of all New Yorkers.
"We are excited to celebrate the victory of Phil Wong, who emerged triumphant in a competitive three-way race for City Council District 30. Phil, a dedicated community activist, has been a steadfast advocate for merit-based education and law and order," said Yiatin Chu, President of Asian Wave Alliance. "We are thrilled to support Phil as he advances to the general election, and we are confident in his integrity and ability to represent our shared values as well as the best interest of New York City in the next City Council," she added.
Additionally, we are proud of the underdog fight that George Sarantopoulos waged and won in the Republican primary for City Council District 47. Taking on the establishment as an outsider, regardless of party, requires determination and a strong campaign. We commend George for his resilience and look forward to supporting him in the general election as he faces a far left Democrat for City Council District 47.
We are deeply appreciative to all candidates who engaged with our club and for presenting platforms that would have benefited our community and hope they will remain committed to making New York City a better place through public service.
As a nonpartisan political club, the Asian Wave Alliance remains committed to evaluating all candidates for our general election endorsements based on their merits, platforms, and dedication to the issues that matter to our communities, and look forward to seeing what November’s election brings.
